Horticulture

I teach a comprehensive horticulture class of which floral design is a small part. I want to know if anyone has some ideas for cheap and easy designs for a class of 25-30. I would also welcome some ideas for incorporating landscape design into the curriculum.

Re: Horticulture
We introduced floral design around the holidays. The students were required to bring in a container (to be returned with an arrangement) and accessories (ornaments, pine cones, etc). We collected natural material from around the school. We have an abundant supply of vines growing on the school grounds, also holly and pine. The wreaths that were created were fabulous. We even had one student taking orders and producing custom orders. SAE anyone? I supplied hot glue, wire and a few accessories to get everyone motivated. Projects were virtually free.

Single flower bud vases are fairly cheap and you can have students bring in their own vase from home or have teachers bring in extra vases at your school. I am sure they would appreciate the chance to get rid of a few. All you will need per student is one rose or carnation 4-5 pieces of leatherleaf, a couple sprigs of baby's breath and ribbon to make a bow. This is a fairly easy arrangement to make and the kids love it. And students don't really have to know a lot about principles of design to make this arrangement.
