Agr. Literacy Project

I am trying to initiate a state project with my first year FFA members. Instead of just researching agriculture about an assigned state, I would like to do some type of box exchange where my students would pack a box of goodies, pamphlets, etc... that represent agriculture from our state and local area, send it to a chapter from another state, and in return, they do the same for my students. It doesn't need to something elaborate, just a chance to link with another chapter and do something more than search the web for information. I'm looking for approximately 10 states to try this with. We are from NY!

New Jersey is just across the border, but if you need someone to fill out your ten states, we'll do it.

Re: Agr. Literacy Project
I am teaching at a middle school in Central Florida and would like for my classes to participate in this. There is this type of activity that is used in the Environmental Science lessons and we would Love to send things from our state to you. Please let us know as we can get a box ready at the beginning of the year when we do our national Ag lessons. We would also like to send a blowup flamingo to different part of the country and have Ag programs take pics of their most outstanding area production (with the flamingo in the picture of course) and send the pics back to us while sending the flamingo on to the next State on our list. Let me know if this would be something you might like ot participate in also

Re: Agr. Literacy Project

Kathi,

The flamingo Idea is good and if I had something I could present to my kids about flamingo production (a Powerpoint for example), that would be very cool. On a $10 flash drive, this could travel with the flamingo and each new school can add something from thier state (the picture, a new powerpoint, etc.) You might find that this adds incentive to become involved with the flamigo project. Maybe, maybe not. Good Luck

Re: Agr. Literacy Project

I realize it was quite awhile since you posted this idea. I am a first year teacher from Nebraska and we would be interested in this sort of project if you are still doing it. Is the plan for us to make like 10 boxes and send them to everyone involved and then we would recieve a box from everyone involved? Let me know details. e-mail at jlechtenberg@esu11.org Thank you

Jon

Sorry that I dropped the NJ ball on this one last year. I have three classes of 8th graders this fall and we are working on it this year. Those of you who I received packages from are our first priority.
