I admit it. I'm a techie geek (to a small degree). One of my co-workers shared her technology secret with me. (i.e. How she's always doing "cool stuff!") You can subscribe to a free newsletter for teachers called "Free Technology for Teachers" at http://www.freetech4teachers.com/ Each day a newsletter or RSS will come to you with some hot sites for integration. On weekends, I usally test out one or two that I have read about during the week. (Hence the games post a few moments ago.)
One of the things I am currently working on is exploring comic use in the classroom. That read is at http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2009/10/20-ways-to-use-comics-in-your-classroom.html I used to love when my students could create an end of year agriculture comic using Garfield, but since the licensing ended with National FFA, I'm seeking other ways.
Enjoy and if you try any tips out, please share!
If you've got mac's somewhere in your school- there is a tool that comes on them called Comic Life- this allows students (and you!) to create your own comics. you can insert pictures that kids hav etaken, and it changes the texture of the pictures to look like a comic, and students can add thought bubbles and such. Its a pretty awesome program if you have access to the mac platform!
